Why a European Master's in Forensic Sciences?
In most EU countries, in criminal trials, the defence is allowed to carry out tests on exhibits, but only very few experts are still available apart of the police, so that this right is often void.
On the other hand, most jurists hardly understand problems and language of scientific experts and then, too often incorrectly, demand a yes/no answer.
Hence, there is a need for forensic scientists able to carry out reliable tests to expose to the court results and conclusions in a suitable language; and, there is also a need for jurists with forensic sciences knowledge.
The need for obtaining and interpreting results is more and more felt by operators on the crime scene and by courts in Europe. This course aims to satisfy that need and offer scientists and jurists a common language to be used during trials.
As the main problem of the reciprocal communication are differences in logics and languages, the courses will be held mainly with attendants in a unique class, even with different purposes for scientists and non scientists.
However, the first part of the course will be devoted to the specific purposes of the two categories: scientists will study criminal law and criminal procedure, whereas non scientists will learn the bases of sciences. The last part of the course will be devoted to the individual specialisation.
